I drove into the gas pump I looked over on the black Jeep that closely resembled mine & saw this sticker on the side window reading, "but did you die?"

I've been through a lot of tough seasons in my life. More than some, less than others. Interestingly, just before I turned & read these words, "But did you die" I was remembering some of those tough times.

Today, while at lunch with a friend, I was discussing with him the more than one million dollars that one of those difficult seasons cost me. I was reflecting again on this conversation while driving into the gas station & felt a bit frustrated as I considered the loss.

Then, in that moment, I turned & read those words "But did you die" & I laughed as I felt the Holy Spirit further elaborate on my failure to die by saying, "You are a victory statistic. You have made it through 100% of your worst days!"

Son, here's the lesson. Yeah, it was hard. Yeah, it cost a lot. Yeah, It hurt like heck! But I'm still here! I'm still able to fight! I'm still an overcomer! And I still have the promises of God that He will work everything together for my good!

The key is, YOU CAN'T QUIT! You can recalibrate. You can reassess...JUST DON'T QUIT.

I heard a man today say, your perspective can be your prison or your passport. Then he asked, are you buried there or are you planted?

Every deed is a seed. Don't be imprisoned by your perspective. Keep your thoughts, words & actions in alignment with the Word & promises of God. Keep your focus & perspective in agreement with what He says & remember you are more than a conqueror. You've made it through 100% of your worst days & today's challenges are just another day you get to win. (Even when it hurts)

FAVOR ain't fair. Today, I stopped at the store for some eye drops and the manager was marking down the prices on all the Easter candy. I wait all year for my favorite candy, Cadbury Eggs to come out for Easter. Let's just say she made me an offer on the whole box that I couldn't refuse. GOOD GOD!

Son, it would be easier to follow their advice. They won't understand why you don't do it their way because, it makes sense on paper...

It would be easier to prioritize money over people. It would be easier to prioritize your personal successes over relationships. It would be easier to base the decisions on who you hang out with mostly upon how they will benefit you reaching your goals. It would be easier to see life primarily through the lenses of how it benefits you & yours and make the choices that are in your best interest. It would be easier (and I've been so tempted to) to weigh everything in your life as a commodity in a business transaction and only give preference to that which increases your bottom line...it would be easier.

And son, although there is a significant element of wisdom in that at times, there is a variable that is much more important that must be weighed above every other benefit. You must first follow the leading of the Holy Spirit.

God will not always lead you down the road that coincides with what the millionaire author advises. God doesn't always guide you down the path that society (or even your mentors) will tell you is the road to success. And it will be really difficult when everything in you wants to do what "makes sense"...When you know YOU COULD DO THAT AND IT WOULD WORK, but you also know that God is saying, "Don't do it... Not now...Instead, I want you to do this..."

People won't understand... You won't always understand. The tears, the frustration, the loneliness at times. Feeling used when God asks you to be still and hold your tongue when you want to fight as they perceive your kindness as weakness and attempt to take advantage of you.

It would be easier, but to do it the "easier way" would change who you are! Be God's man first, son. Choose His way first and be the one who stands, even if you stand alone.

It will not always be honored but it is HONORABLE and God sees it even when no one else ever will. People are what matters most to God. Don't ever let anything shift your priorities beyond that perspective.

Dad loves you boy, I hope you always know it.

After the Sandy Hook school shooting in 2012, my heart felt so grieved. Rocky was about the age of some of the children that had been killed, and I couldn't help but Imagine what their parents must have been experiencing. The natural question of, "God, if you are loving and kind, how could you allow these things to take place...?" troubled my mind. I went to Him in prayer and asked Him honestly and I feel like He met me where I was at and gave me some perspective that helped me understand more about His nature in light of a world that is ravaged by sin and brokenness. I wrote in depth about this in chapter 12 of my book, Quantum Christianity. If you will direct message me your email address, I want to offer you a free digital copy of the book if you think you might benefit from some additional perspective right now. I went back and read it again myself this morning. Chapter 12 is not going to answer all your questions about why bad things happen, but it may help you with some additional perspective about who God is during times of tragedy.
