Dominion Was Always The Intent

Matthew 6:9-13

New King James Version (NKJV)

In this manner, therefore, pray:

Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
10 Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts,
As we forgive our debtors.
13 And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

Most Biblical scholars and theologians agree that Christ’s central message on Earth was, “The Kingdom of God”(or in other words, what it looks like when Heaven’s principles are established in the Earth).   Jesus was the model for what the “Kingdom” looks like when man’s authority is redeemed and the power of the Holy Spirit is at work in their lives.  Even in the His example of how to pray, Jesus addresses “the Kingdom” at the beginning and the end of his prayer in Matthew 6:9-13….

Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven… For thine is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever….

Jesus came to earth with the purpose of restoring dominion in mind!  This was clearly stated in 1 John 3:8 that reads:

For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil. (NKJV)

The “works of the devil” are often seen in the destruction evident in the lives of people.  So, it stands to reason that Jesus came to dethrone the enemy from this place of control and influence.

In the Lords Prayer, vs 13 He prays, …deliver us from evil.  The word “evil” here is the Greek word “poneros” and represents the entire curse of sin upon man.  Poneros is derived from the word “ponos” which means pain and that word comes from the word “penes”, which means poor.

Jesus came to destroy and deliver us from ALL the works of the devil, Evil-sin, Pain-sickness and Poor-poverty and on Calvary He did just that!  Adam and Eve lived free from sin, sickness and poverty in the garden and now that we are restored to God’s original intent and purpose through Christ, should we expect anything less?

After all, wasn’t what Jesus accomplished called the better covenant?
